A car owner buys petrol at $\text{Rs. }7.50, \text{Rs. }8$ and $\text{Rs. }8.50$ per litre for three successive years. What approximately is the average cost per litre of petrol if he spends $\text{Rs. }4000$ each year?

Answer is A.

No of litres bought in 3 years = $(4000/7.5)+(4000/8)+(4000/8.5)$

Total amount spent in buying petrol in 3 years = 4000*3

Average cost per litre of petrol in 3 years = $(4000*3)/[(4000/7.5)+(4000/8)+(4000/8.5)] = 7.979$ ~ Rs.7.98
